Code of Conduct

The Student Code of Conduct was created by the students with the aim to ensure that all students have the opportunity to take full advantage of their time here at Bicton College. As a place of work both for staff and students, it is to everybody's benefit that:

This is a simple code to which all students are asked to sign up. The main areas contained in the code of conduct are based around; Student Behaviour, Working and Learning, Looking After the Environment, Health Safety and Security. The students were keen that the behaviour of all students showed mutual respect for all, including freedom from harassment of any kind and agreed that all students should comply with reasonable instructions relating to behaviour from all college staff.

Bicton College is both a working and learning environment and it is recognised that all students should participate fully in their chosen programme of study, dress appropriately for college, arrive punctually at all timetabled learning sessions and respect the learning experience of others when on the college campus.

Bicton College strives to be the college of the environment and students play a crucial role in this. The students here are very proud of their college and realise that the environment will be quickly spoilt by discarding litter.  There are many reasons for not discarding litter. For example it can be a danger to the animals that we have on site and therefore it is important that litter bins are used and all students follow the Country Code.

It is essential that everyone adheres to all Health and Safety regulations. The nature of our courses means that there are a range of sometimes complex facilities and equipment here, all of which must be treated with respect. Equipment that students are not familiar with should not be used until they have been shown how to use it.

Security is also a priority and it is important that Bicton College remains a safe and secure learning environment. Anyone who is not a member of Bicton College must report to the Main Reception when entering the site.

Students were keen that all those signing up to the Student Code of Conduct should be aware that if anything is wrong, students should inform a member of the college staff immediately.  In particular, if they feel harassed or intimidated by anyone they should report it to a member of staff as soon as possible. Working within this Code created by students assists in ensuring that they experience a full and enjoyable college life.

During your time here we will ask you to review the Code through your course representatives via the Student Council.
