Horticulture: Course Information

The following information will provide guidance to the course equipment and books that may be needed. This will be discussed further during the induction week and the first few weeks of the course.

Equipment Required

Level 2 & Level 3:

  • Polo shirt with Bicton logo which is compulsory and can be purchased through the college on Registration Day via the Horticulture department.
  • Safety Work Boots, conforming to EN ISO 20345. Metallic or non-metallic toe cap acceptable
  • Work or walking trousers (Dickies/Regatta) not jeans
  • Work shorts for warm weather
  • Gloves x 2 pairs; one lightweight, one thorn proof
  • Outdoor clothing for wet and cold weather

Boots, trousers and gloves will be required for the first day of your course.  These can be purchased from Millets, Mole Valley Farmers and Trago Mills.

Level 3 students additional equipment

  • Scale ruler with 1:20, 1:50 and 1:100 scales
  • HB Pencil
  • Set square
  • Circle template
  • Compass
  • Drawing pens that must be pigment ink with nib sizes of 0.1, 0.3 and 0.5mm.
  • Plastic sleeves of A2 size

Optional Equipment

  • Secateurs – a good quality brand such as Felco or Bahco

Additional Requirements / Information

  • £5 refundable deposit for a locker key for your PPE when not in use
